1st National Symposium on Excellence in Training concludes
New Delhi: The 1st National Symposium on Excellence in Training was organized by the Department of Personnel and Training in collaboration with UNDP India here on April 11-12, 2015. The two-day event was inaugurated by the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North-Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr. Jitendra Singh on April 11, 2015. The Symposium was organized with the overarching objective of providing an annual National Platform for various stakeholders associated with training of government sector employees.
The Symposium was designed on the following specific objectives:
Â· To impress upon the importance of Systematic Approach to Training (SAT), and recommendations of the National Training Policy 2012.
Â· To provide exposure to the trainers in Central Training Institutions and Administrative Training institutions (CTIs/ATIs) on the latest training methodologies/techniques globally.
Â· To promote sharing of good practices among stakeholders involved in training; and
Â· To ensure continuous capacity building of Trainers, Training Managers and Training Administrators from CTIs, ATIs, and central Ministries/Departments.
The second day of the Symposium was marked on topics like Developing Effective Trainers, Using Innovative Training Methodologies like Case Study Writing & Teaching and E-learning, Impact Evaluation and Assessment (by plenary sessions by international/national experts). A group activity session was organized towards the end of the day two to help the Symposium benefit from thoughts of the participants, their feedback on major points. Participants were able to integrate their ideas and learnings and shared the same.
The closing session was marked by the presence of Shri P.K. Mishra, Additional Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister. He presented the Award for Excellence in Training to the 12 best practice initiatives taken by individual trainers and Training Institutions under four thematic areas.
Speaking on the occasion, Shri Mishra said that the goal of the Government is to make Governance efficient, effective, accountable, responsive and transparent. This requires significant capacity building of our employees at all levels to meet the challenges and aspiration of the people and deliver various programmes launched by the new Government. He added that this is a big challenge before all the training institutions, faculty and trainers, to bring the required changes in skills, knowledge and aptitude of our employees so that delivery improves.
It was announced that the Symposium will be an annual event and DOPT would continue with this initiative with even more enthusiasm and collective participation in the years to come. The Symposium website www.dopt-nset.in will provide a regular platform for keeping the delegates connected and all stakeholders participate through discussion forum and other unique features.
